The new complete or partial denture provided to you by Gary W. Lee, DDS’s team of oral care specialists represents an important investment in restoring the essential function of your missing teeth. While the removable dental appliance will not be vulnerable to bacterial tooth decay, it will still require some daily care and maintenance.

It’s important to thoroughly rinse your denture under running water anytime you take it out. Each night you should also lightly brush all the surfaces with a denture polish or other form of nonabrasive toothpaste to remove any food particles and plaque buildup. You should then soak the denture in water and store it overnight in a safe place.

You might want to also try adding a simple tongue cleaning to your daily oral hygiene regimen. This can be as easy as cleaning the rough surfaces of your tongue with a toothbrush or tongue scraper. This might help remove plaque and bacteria to reduce bad breath.

If you have a partial denture, make sure to brush your existing teeth each morning and night as well as thoroughly flossing at least once each day. This can help preserve your basic oral health and help maintain a comfortable fit with your denture.
