The holiday season is in full swing, and it’s more important than ever to keep your mouth clean. Nobody wants to add taking care of a cavity to their holiday to-do list! Here are some great tips to help make sure that doesn’t happen.
First off, brush your teeth. This should take 2 minutes, two times a day. That’s less time than many songs on the radio. So turn on your favorite tune, and brush away! If you struggle to take that much time on your teeth, try setting a timer. Some electric toothbrushes come with timers built-in, to ensure a quality clean.
Floss your teeth, every day! Flossing, when done properly, removes the food particles and plaque that your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing should take 2-3 minutes each day. Use only ADA-approved products specifically intended for interdental cleaning.
Watch your foods. Sugary and acidic foods both damage your teeth. Many drinks, particularly, are full of both acids and sugars. Acid and sugary drinks include soda, energy drinks, sports drinks, fruit juice, wine, and most coffee beverages. The acids and sugars present in these drinks, along with other foods, contributes to tooth enamel decay and cavities.
